Number 52 - Resolving to go with this design
When I was painting the image boards,
I didn't start out thinking that I was going to create Hayao Miyazaki-like pictures.
First of all the intention was just to do something simple and strong.
But when I actually tried to paint the image boards,
I noticed the fact that everything I painted turned out like Hayao Miyazaki.
Even when I tried to change them, the pictures still resembled him somewhere.
Before the stage of consciously choosing or rejecting a style of artwork,
they just naturally turned out that way.
I wrote before how, from the time I was small, in order to find out what the father I almost never saw was like, and what he was thinking of, I watched his films intently.
In my time, I have seen a lot of animation and movies, but they are all things that have passed through me. The only things that have stuck inside me are the works of Hayao Miyazaki. The results came out when I painted the image boards.
Working as the director of an animated film, everything I possess comes from my father's works. That is why I realized then that if I am going to use something as my model, the only thing I can use are the works of Hayao Miyazaki.
At the same time, I resolved that "I'm going to go with pictures that look like Hayao Miyazaki in this film".
