Number 90 - Cob and Hare
As was also written in the production diary,
the animation is finally completed.
My instruction from Ms. Yasuda, the colour designer, has also come to an end.
There is only a little work left to be done on the pictures: ink and paint, and
imaging.
Today, the voice recording for Yuko Tanaka, who plays the master sorceror Cob[1] and Teruyuki Kagawa, who plays her[2] underling Hare, was completed.
The performances of the two were totally contrasting, but both of them were masterpieces in the sense of breathing depth and attractiveness into the characters.
All the time while these two were recording I was constantly impressed, thinking: "These are real actors!"[3] The spine chilling quality of Cob, and the comical quality of Hare that you cannot help laughing at. I think they make a brilliant pair.
Ms. Tanaka, Mr. Kagawa, I really want to thank you very much.
Translator's Notes
[1]: This is given as "dai-mahoutsukai" (大 魔 法 使) which would mean "Great Wizard" "Great Sorceror" etc., as opposed to the Archmage Ged who is called (see entries 10 & 17) "dai-kenjin" which would mean "Great Sage".
[2]: She's an actress so I assuming the character is female. For all I know it could be a male character voiced by a female.
[3]: Actually, this literally translates to "Are these what you call real actors?", but since he just said he was impressed, I assume the nuance is as given above.
