Number 98 - The Tower Records Event is Over

Yesterday I was out of the studio for a half day in the afternoon because of the event held at Tower Records in Shibuya.

In the morning we carried out a film-check on rolls 1 - 3. When transferred to film[1], the subtle hues of the background, and even the delicate cinematography[2] were clearly visible, making the screen really beautiful. I was impressed, once again, with how good film is. When I think that there are some things digital can't do yet - I feel a slight thrill!

At the afternoon event there was a press conferenc from 3 o'clock for the release of the Aoi Teshima single. At that conference were Miss Teshima, Producer Suzuki and myself. From 7 o'clock, there was a discussion with Hiroko Taniyama and myself hosted by Goro Yamada. Ms. Teshima, Ms. Taniyama both created a brilliant atmosphere - Producer Suzuki and I were virtually reduced to being foils for the two women. Both events were packed full. So far so good then, I reassured myself.

In any case, while I'm overjoyed with the success of the event on one hand, as I wrote before, while the movie still isn't finished, I have to wonder whether it's really a good thing for me the director to receive all these interviews now? After the movie is finished and it's gone out, then I think I will first be able to speak about what I thought as the director.

Translator's Notes

[1]: Remember, everything was digitally imaged first, the colour was added digitally, and the movie is only now being transferred to film for distribution.

[2]: This is "satsuei shori" (撮 影 処 理). I haven't been able to find a translation for it. The two compounds in it mean 'photography' and 'treatment/disposal/deal with', so I have gone with 'cinematography' as the most acceptable guess.
