On more than one occasion, Miyazaki extensively reworked pages to make the sequences more to his liking. Not surprisingly, highly dramatic story points seemed to receive the most attention.
As you can see, the original publication of Nausicaa's encounter with "the Nothingness" was expanded and completely reworked. Only three of the first four panels from the original were used in the revision.
