"Puss in boots" is a feature film by Toei Doga (Toei Animation Studio) made in 1969, for which Miyazaki worked as a key animator. Miyazaki wrote a manga version of it for the serialization in a newspaper (credited as "by Toei Doga")

The Story

Based on Charles Perrault's book. Pero, the dandy cat, helps a boy defeat an Ogre and win the heart of a princess.

• "Nagagutsu wo haita neko" (Animage Bunko: Puss in boots) 1984, Animage Juju Bunko, Tokuma Shoten
  A paperback about the story and the production of the movie. The manga was reprinted in it. The book is probably out of print.
