Date: Wed, 23 Jun 1999 10:44:33 +0900 The current issue of "Pia", a weekly entertainment information magazine, as 7-page article about "Yamada-Kun" and Ghibli, and of it, two pages are used to report news about "Ghibli overseas", about how Ghibli films are accepted outside of Japan. And here is the info in the Pia article. (Until they get confirmed by Miramax, please take them with a grain of salt.) *There will be an event about "Princess Mononoke" in Central Park in New York this fall. It will be a charity concert by a certain famous band, but Mr. Suzuki (the president of Ghibli) says that the name of the band if "secret". MH will be screened at the theater nearby. Together with "Ghibli retrospective" exhibition at MoMA (starting in the later half of September), it will be a big event. *Mr. Suzuki, also said that MH will be screened at the Telluride, Toronto, and New York Film Festivals. According to him, the Telluride Film Festival will host "Miyazaki Week". *Mr. Suzuki also said that the English dub of MH will be theater released in Japan in next spring, through Toho. And they are now talking about screening the English versions of other Ghibli films, such as "Kiki" and "Laputa". *The article still says that MH will be released in "1000 theaters in 100 cities". I suspect that Ghibli still believes this figure. (Or, I hope that this figure is actually true!) *It says that MH will be released in such countries as Germany, France, Italy and Brazil. Ryo
