October 28, 2004 R1 Releases Delayed (again)
UltimateDisney.com is reporting:
The second wave of Miyazaki titles have now disappeared from Disney's retail schedule. Originally slated to come last August, this trio of 2-disc Special Editions (Porco Rosso, Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind, and My Neighbor Totoro) were expected February 22, 2005. For now, we'll have to put this back in the "release date TBA" column on our Complete Upcoming Release Schedule, and hope that a formal press announcement comes soon.
Thanks to Gilbert Paquette and Ryan Nutick for the news.
October 13, 2004 "Howl" News Bits
A part of "Sekai no Yakusoku," the theme song of Howl's Moving Castle can be now heard here.
Unlike the previously available version, which was sung by Yumi KIMURA, this one is sung by Chieko BAISHO, the voice actress of Sophie. This is the version used in the film.
Yomiuri Newspaper has published an interview with Diana Wynne Jones.
Interesting tidbits:
-She hasn't seen the film yet.
-She thinks the castle's design interesting. She likes the idea of the castle with legs.
-She was glad to hear that the film was funny.
-The first Miyazaki film she saw was Laputa. She thought that Miyazaki was a genius, so she immediately accepted the offer when Ghibli asked for the right for Howl.
-Since then, she saw Totoro, Kiki, Porco, and Mononoke. Ghibli sent her the videos of these films. She loved them, so did her grandchildren.
-She especially loves the beauty of backgrounds in Ghibli films.
-Interviewer told her that animators wanted to draw Sophie cute, as she is a heroine, but Miyazaki demanded them to draw her as a real old woman. DWJ was glad to hear that. She thinks that it means that Miyazaki truly understand the essence of the novel.
NTV is holding an exhibition about Howl's castle from Nov. 3 to Nov. 28 at the NTV Plaza in Shiodome, admission is free.
