November 30, 2006 Totoro On Australian Soap 'Neighbours'

I was pleased to hear numerous mentions of Miyazaki and see a big stuffed Totoro toy on yesterday's (UK) episode of the Australian soap 'Neighbours'! Although checking the official web site for the original Australian broadcast date, it appears that the plotline ('marking Miyazaki's Birthday') got his birthday wrong - it was apparently broadcast in September 6th, as opposed to the actual birth date, which is 5th January

November 16, 2006 Miayzaki featured in Time magazine (Asian edition)
The cover story of the current issue of Time magazine (Asian edition) features "60 Years of Asian Heroes" and lists Miyazaki as one of the "Artists and Thinkers." The short blurb describes Miyazaki as "...Walt Disney, Steven Spielberg and Orson Welles combined, with a dash of Claude Monet in his sumptuous landscapes and more than a smidgen of Roald Dahl in his sly, sophisticated understanding of children."


November 14, 2006 Passing of Murata Koichi
Ghibli World has a write-up (Japanese article) on Murata Koichi who passed away on November 7. A who's-who of the anime industry attended his funeral including Studio Ghibli heads Miyazaki, Takahata, and Suzuki.

November 6, 2006 Updated: "Pom Poko" on Film4
Pom Poko will be shown on Film4 on Sunday (November 12) and Friday (November 17) at 3pm (4pm on Film4+1). The first showing is the English dub while the latter utilizes the Japanese dub and English subtitles.

Only Yesterday is planned to show sometime in December on Film4 but no dates have been announced.
