One of the best animated films to come out of
Studio Ghibli, Laputa deals with the quest of
a young girl, Sheeta, as she tries to find her true past. Her only clue is a
magical amulet which has been passed down through her family for generations.
It also deals with a young boy, Pazu, who dreams of flying like his father,
who once glimpsed the legendary floating castle-city of Laputa.
Our story begins with Sheeta held prisoner on an airship. She slips out the window, to elude the men holding her prisoner, but loses her grip and plummets down towards the earth. Suddenly, the amulet flairs and her downward plummet is halted. She floats gently down to the ground, arriving at the area where Pazu is working. Pazu is surprised to have a girl float down from the sky, but brings her home with him.
When Sheeta wakes the next morning, she tells Pazu that she's being chased.
The men who are after her believe that her amulet has a connection to Laputa. When the men track Sheeta to Pazu's village,
Pazu and Sheeta escape on a train. Eventually, they run in with air pirates, who help them. Eventually, destiny must lead all
to Laputa...the legendary castle in the sky. There will the truth be finally revealed.
